This is Day 4 of the Kenopanishad series of talks conducted by Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha ji in Narayanashrama Tapovanam, Kerala, in 2017.

In this Satsang, discussing the Kenopanishad mantras, Swamiji says that Consciousness is the Revealer of everything. It reveals the external objects and also reveals the internal signals of the mind, buddhi etc. It reveals when there is no signal also. Without the Consciousness,
nothing will be revealed. We cannot miss it at any time.

In meditation we often find that thoughts emerge in the mind and we get disturbed and agitated by them. Swamiji explains that instead of feeling disturbed, we have to try and see that the thoughts are just a wave in the Revealer Consciousness. But unfortunately, our focus is always on the thought and not on the Revealer of the thought. We must strive to change the focus from the thoughts to the unaffected Revealer.

Every perception is taking place in this Revealer. But we are not able to identify with it. Instead, we identify with the external perceptions. But when we are able to dis-identify ourselves from the externals, we transcend the worldliness. When we are able to detect this Revealer in every perception, we become unaffected, changeless and immortal.

How is the Atma or Consciousness to be known? The Upanishad says that it is different from whatever is known and equally transcends whatever is unknown. Swamiji emphasizes that you cannot know the Atma as different from you. It is the knowledge about our own Self, our real identity.
