In this Satsang, Swamiji points out that through the story the Upanishad tells us how each of the Devas (Agni, Vayu and Indra) came close to knowing Brahman.

The Upanishad gives two instructions, explaining the Truth with an Upama (illustration). Although Brahman is indescribable, the Upanishad tries to explain it so that it becomes understood by our intelligence. The first instruction is in the context of divinity which says that one may have a touch of the Atma but it will only be like the flash of lightning or a blink of an eye. The vision of Atma may give us power but it will not remain with us.

The second instruction is in the context of the Soul. The Sadhaka has to go on revolving or churning the thought of Brahman in his mind. When the mind thinks about Brahman intensely and constantly, the mind becomes purified. This constant and intense thought of Brahman (Brahma Vritti) brings the mind closer and closer to the Truth.

The Upanishad says that Brahman is the Self of all beings and ought to be worshipped. One who knows Brahman, also becomes adorable for everybody. His mind becomes free of ego and desires and he lives in tune with the fundamental harmony of nature.

On the request of the disciple, the Guru in the Upanishad gives the Sadhana, the practices by which the impurities of the mind can be removed. Purification can be attained through Tapas (austerity), Damah (sensory restraint) and Karma (activities performed with no selfishness or desires).
