What is the fundamental pursuit for a spiritual seeker? Citing the Upanishadic Mantras, Swamiji gives us a clear definition of what the fundamental Sadhana is. The basic Sadhana is expansion. The seeker has to go from the limited body-mind identity to the expansive level of Universality. This expansion is the expansion of the mind, intelligence and emotions. Real sadhana is to expand the heart and mind to embrace the whole world and not to remain constricted to the small, limited identity.

Discussing the Mantras of the Upanishad, Swamiji explains ignorance (Avidya) and knowledge (Vidya) in great detail. Those who are in ignorance are in darkness. But if a seeker, in the name of pursuing Self-Realization, remains self-centered and selfish then he is in greater darkness.

Creation consists of both Vidya and Avidya. From birth, we are in Avidya. A seeker has to apply Vidya to overcome the Avidya. The purpose it to Know the One Consciousness. Perfection lies in finally transcending both Avidya and Vidya and living in the world being aware of one’s own true identity.

One can proceed in the spiritual path through a dedicated pursuit of both the meditative Sadhana and interactional Sadhana. In meditation, the seeker gets the touch of the Self which is unaffected, expansive, infinite and universal. The interactional Sadhana is to bring the touch of the same self in all interactions also. Whenever the mind is affected, selfish and self-centered, one needs to connect to the qualities of the Self. By this process, we establish Oneness in all the variety; we establish the Self is all the interactions.
