01 – by Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha – Three Gunas that Binds and Liberates Us

Lecture by Nutan Swamiji based on Chapter 14 of Bhagavad Gita during Shadhana Shibiram in Society for Inner Resources Development, Malaysia on 21 January 2023.

In this talk, Swamiji discusses the uniqueness of Bhagavad Gita by saying that it is a revolutionary presentation although it expounds the ancient Upanishadic Knowledge.

The Upanishadic Sadhana was exclusively for sincere and wholesome seekers whose minds were reasonably free of desires, ego, agitation and raga-dvesha. It was an exclusive knowledge pursuit devoted to solitary study, meditation and contemplation and was reserved for the rare few who
sincerely pursued it.

But Bhagavad Gita was given in a battlefield, which was the scene of intense activity. Bhagavad Gita says that activities which we think are a hindrance to Sadhana can be made an instrument to take us to the Ultimate goal.

Buddhi Yoga of Bhagavad Gita leads one to the same goal as the Upanishadic Pursuit. It can be pursued by all, provided one is willing to change his/her mindset. Normally, we work motivated by desires and selfishness. Changing this mindset, we have to convert every moment into a sadhana.
Yoga Buddhi is when we expand the mind to the Soul level.

Swamiji discusses the various Buddhi Yoga concepts presented in Bhagavad Gita—Samatva (Evenness of Vision), Asangatva (Freedom from clinging to ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’, likes and dislikes), Yajna-bhāvana (performing all activities as an offering to the Lord by keeping the mind free of desires and selfishness), Outliving rāga-dveṣa, Transcending Guṇas, and Śaraṇāgati (Surrender).

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Isa Upanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
