01 – by Swamini Ma Gurupriya – Narratives from Sreemad Bhagavatam

581 Views | 1 year ago

This talk was given by Swamini Ma Gurupriya ji on 12 August 2013, during the Malaysia Jnana Yajna.

In this Satsang, Ma speaks about the deep messages ingrained in the stories presented in Srimad Bhagavatam. These devotional stories take away all the impurities of the mind and make it dispassionate and tranquil. The mind must hear the stories with great attention, attunement and wholesomeness so that all undesirable traits get dissolved. A seeker must introspect on the stories, understand the messages in it, assimilate them and then live accordingly.

Narrating how Veda Vyasa created Srimad Bhagavatam, Ma says that every listener must also be able to think of the well-being of the society and lead a righteous and service-oriented life. Similarly, the story of the Pandavas and Draupadi, must make a seeker yearn to lead a noble, righteous life, with great love and devotion to Lord Krishna. King Pareekshit’s life shows that even a great devotee of the Lord can fall prey to anger and ago.

Ma urges us to revisit our own ideas about devotion and assess whether our devotion is wholesome. We may do meditation, chanting, worship etc for some time in the day, but the rest of the day we get agitated over trivial things. Our devotion is never without motive. Knowing this, a seeker must strive to become a wholesome devotee.
