In this Satsang, Nutan Swamiji discusses the story of young Nachiketa (in Kathopanishad) who had the requisite qualities for acquiring Brahma Vidya (the Supreme Knowledge). Nachiketa displayed many noble qualities unlike his father, who because of his attachment to his possessions, gave worthless gifts to the priests at the conclusion of a Yajna.

When questioned by his son, his father, in a fit of anger, sent Nachiketa to Lord Yama (the Lord of death). In Yama’s absence, Nachiketa waited outside Yama's abode for three days. This showcased his Vairagya (dispassion), and titiksha (forbearance). On his return, Lord Yama offered three boons to atone for neglecting Nachiketa.

As the first boon Nachiketa asked for his father to be relieved of his anger towards him. As the second boon, he asked for the knowledge of Agni Vidya for reaching heaven, and finally he wanted to know what happens when the body falls.

Nachiketa's wisdom and disinterest in worldly and heavenly gifts demonstrated his one-pointed pursuit of the eternal Truth. He sought to know the essence of existence, the consciousness (Atma) in which the entire universe appears. Nachiketa's inquiry emphasized the importance of seeking a Guru who can guide the seeker on the path of self-enquiry, to realize the Truth. Nachiketa's story emphasizes the importance of virtues, intense spiritual quest, and dispassion in obtaining true knowledge and fulfillment, transcending worldly desires and ephemeral possessions.
