Swamiji mentions that the composition 'Bhaja Govindam' is attributed partly to Adi Shankaracharya and partly to his disciples and it aims to instill dispassion and discrimination in seekers.

Adi Shankara advises seekers to cast aside greed for wealth and find delight in whatever one receives. He cautions against being allured by the physical attributes of women. The seeker has to constantly remind his own mind about the transient nature of worldly attractions. The text suggests repeatedly contemplating on the impermanence of the body. It encourages developing a broad and noble mind, free from attachment to external things.

Chanting the verses is said to have a transformative effect on the mind, reducing tensions and bringing about sublimity and enrichment.

Quoting Adi Shankaracharya’s Jeevanmuktananda Lahari, Swamiji says that a Jeevanmukta, has the complete understanding that the world is a projection of his own mind. Everything is the mind’s display alone. Knowing that he is the ‘Seer’, the ‘Witness’, the ‘Subject’, he interacts with everything in the world but does not suffer from any delusion or attachment.
