Introspection based on Sadhana Chatushtaya - Interactive Session with Nutan Swamiji
#nutanswamiji #enlightenedliving
In this satsang, Nutan Swamiji answers the question 'What is the difference between Ego and Consciousness?' in a very clear and elaborate manner.
What we refer by the word Ego, is of two kinds. One is the center or hub of our personality, which coordinates all the sensory inputs, the activities of mind and intelligence and enable the personality to function in a coordinated and cohesive manner. It is an essential factor in the human personality. The second is a posited 'I' ness. The center of our personality, constantly develops an image of 'I' - an 'I' different from everything else. It superimposes the physical and mental attributes on the substratum, the real 'I'.
The real 'I' is ever independent, but the 'I' we are familiar with, constantly undergoes suffering. This is the egoistic 'I', a product of three gunas of Nature. In reality the whole world along with our body-mind personality is an expression of the three Gunas. When we enquire intently on the nature of this limited 'I', it gets dissolved into the Universal 'I', the Atma. This truth can be discovered by the buddhi alone, but by a purified buddhi.
When we discover the Supreme, the world will continue to exist and function as before, there will be happiness and sorrow, but they will not produce depression or elation. We remain seated in placidity. All the constricting elements which bothered us earlier, will disappear.
