In Kaivalya Upanishad, Lord Brahma tells Ashvalayana (a seeker of Brahma Vidya) that the Ultimate knowledge can be attained only by Shraddha, Bhakti and Dhyana Yoga. In the past few Global Satsangs, Swamiji deeply analyzed and explained the due process and goal of meditation by delving into Ashtanga Yoga Sadhana and Aparokshanubhuti.

Meditation is not meant to be taken as a mere practice or exercise. The ultimate aim of meditation is not to become thoughtless but to have the ‘bodha’—awareness of the Consciousness. A meditation practitioner must not make the mistake of seeking anything different from him. What is important is the bhava (the mindset) and attitude of the seeker. He must be free of desires, expectations, doership and enjoyership. Most importantly, with intense aspiration to realize the Ultimate Truth, he must surrender his whole being.

Kaivalya Upanishad says that one must meditate on the Consciousness which is beyond all concepts, causality, and time, which is the ultimate auspiciousness and which is the abode of bliss and immortality. If one is not able to meditate on the formless Brahman, one can meditate on his/her chosen deity. Meditating on the chosen Lord one-pointedly and with Bhava, the seeker ultimately reaches the source of all creation, the witness of all, which is beyond all ignorance.

The Upanishad states that whatever form one meditates on, it is all the Supreme, Self-luminous, unchanging Consciousness alone. One may do meditation on any form, but the final aim is to reach the transcendental, eternal, non-dual Truth, knowing which, one attains liberation.

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Kaivalya Upanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
