Potential of the Mind

  • Potential of the Mind

    Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Swamiji continues discussing the potential of the mind and asks us to keep introspecting on the mind such that knowledge becomes the functional note in our personality. Manana is the key.

The whole world is matter and energy and it is insentient. It is animated and activated by the Consciousness. Whether you call it the mind or the intelligence or the ego, substance-wise, it is the same cētana or consciousness.

cētana or consciousness is not just the mind that is enclosed within the body. Mind is only a functional name. One aspect of the cētana’s function is called the mind. But as a substance the mind refers to the cētana itself. Such a mind gets affected by interactional impacts only when we cannot extend the knowledge that that the mind is infinite and potent to these impacts. We think the impacts are more powerful than the mind. They are actually ripples and waves and the mind is the ocean.

A seeker must keep bringing the mind to the awareness and infusion of its potential whenever faced with agitations in interactions. Agitations are on the surface, and one must not get shaken by them. In reality, we are unaffected like the space, unshakeable like the mountains, and boundless like the ocean.

Shlokas chanted in the Track:

व्यवसायात्मिका बुद्धिरेकेह कुरुनन्दन ।
बहुशाखा ह्यनन्ताश्च बुद्धयोऽव्यवसायिनाम् ॥

Bhagavad Gita 2.41
