In this deep, enlightening talk, Swamiji reiterates that a seeker’s sadhana must ultimately take him to Yoga, where the small, limited identity gets fused in the Universal identity.

Outlining the Sadhana for it, Kaivalya Upanishad says that by using the tool of Omkara, a seeker must churn his own mind and intelligence to generate the fire of knowledge. Normally, one’s focus is outward which results in worldliness, raga-dvesha, clinging, desires etc. and we miss the substratum Atma, which is the source of all experiences. But by the sadhana of churning the mind and intelligence, one’s attention and focus shifts from the external world to the Consciousness within.

The Upanishad says that deluded by Maya, the Atma, in association of the body-mind personality, does everything. In the wakeful state, it experiences all the bhogas and gets satisfaction. In the dream state, he creates a dream world, by his own individual Maya and experiences sukha and duhkha. In deep sleep, everything gets merged in the Consciousness, where the individual experiences the Ananda (bliss) of his own nature.

Referring to Mandukya Karika, Swamiji explains that the Consciousness comes to know the external universe, the dream world and the sleep state. All the three are manifestations of the same Atma, although it is One. Mandukya Upanishad says the consciousness is indefinable, indescribable. It cannot be perceived by the senses; it can only be known as ‘I am’. This abode of peace, auspiciousness and transcendence is the one to be known by a seeker.
