This talk (01 March 2023) of a 6 Day series was part of Jamshedpur Jnana Yajna 2023 held at Centre For Inner Resources Development, Jamshedpur, India.

In this talk, Swamiji discusses Para Vidya (superior knowledge) and Apara Vidya (inferior knowledge), as discussed in Mundakopanishad. Para Vidya is described as the knowledge that allows seekers to understand the source of the entire creation, a realm beyond the reach of scientific observation. It emphasizes that there is an inner presence within the body that transcends the material world and which cannot be perceived by the senses.

Apara Vidya is limited to what is perceptible and graspable. In contrast, Para Vidya delves into the formless, all-pervading source of the entire creation. The ever-present, subtle, inexhaustible and all- pervading consciousness can only be realized through the purified and subtle buddhi.

Swamiji draws parallels between the seeker Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita and Shaunaka seeking knowledge from sage Angiras in Mundakopanishad, emphasizing that spiritual wisdom is not exclusive to ascetics but is relevant to all individuals leading active lives. Sri Krishna presented the same Upanishadic knowledge to Arjuna in the battlefield, that Sage Angiras imparted to Shaunaka in his forest hermitage.

It would be a great mistake to call the Bhagavad Gita a religious text. It was a dialogue between two administrators and has great relevance and application in today’s world. The Bhagavad Gita is a dialogue between an aggrieved Arjuna and a wise Krishna; It is a dialogue between an enlightened intelligence and a deluded mind. It is a practical guide for addressing common human emotions like fear, doubt, delusion, and ignorance, making it applicable to everyone.
