Prabhata Rashmih – Making Devotion Wholesome

Knowledge in Devotional Pursuit

  • Knowledge in Devotional Pursuit

Krishna revealing the attributes of a Devotee in the 12th Chapter of Bhagavad Gita – Bhakti Yoga. In this talk, Swamiji stresses that in Srimad Bhagavatam, not only Bhakti, but dispassion and God abidance is spoken about.

The human mind may be happy and joyous with devotion, but unless the rational intelligence is fulfilled, there will not be total contentment. Swamiji emphasizes that devotional pursuit should be reinforced by the Knowledge pursuit. Only with the knowledge, the wholesomeness in devotion happens, where all clinging to joys, sorrows, preferences, prejudices and transitoriness to the world drop. Thus, there is a total inner transformation of the mind and intelligence of the devotee.

Swamiji cites the example of the great Carnatic singer Tyagaraja, who was very happy being a devotee, but ultimately transcended his devotion with knowledge and became fulfilled.

Shlokas Chanted in the Track:

अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुण एव च ।
निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी ।।

Bhagavad Gita 12.13

सन्तुष्टः सततं योगी यतात्मा दृढनिश्चयः ।

Bhagavad Gita 12.14
