Religion and Spirituality
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
We have two concepts– religion and spirituality. Normally, we consider some things religious and others non-religious or secular. When this differentiation vanishes and one has a wholesome point of view, it is spiritual.
In religion, everything, rests upon God, who is infinitely distant and invisible. In spirituality, everything that is done is focused on one’s own personality.
Religion, rests upon God and spirituality rests upon oneself. In spirituality, one tries to go into one’s own physical, oral, mental and intelligential activities and try to refine and sublimate them, spiritualize them. One must make sure that undesirables are avoided, and desirables are incorporated in the personality. Once a seeker starts doing it, he does not have to become particularly religious, address God or remember Him. Then, all his interactions become divine.
