Importance of Forbearance
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
In this talk, Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha, gives a brief outline of Vedantic Knowledge. He also describes the Prasthana Traya as the Voyage of Knowledge through the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Brahma Sutras.
Who are the seekers who are fit for the Supreme Knowledge? The seeker must be endowed with the four-fold qualities of Viveka, Vairagya, Shama-damaadi Shatka Sampattih, and Mumuksha.
Highlighting the importance of the quality of forbearance, Titiksha, Swamiji quotes a verse from Vivekachudamani to define it. Whatever may be the event and its impact, the mind has to expand and assimilate it, with no thoughts of lamentation, self-pity, doubts, redressal and such crisscross thoughts. This is a life-long sadhana wherein the mind is totally self-seated, going through all events in life in a masterly manner. For the forbearance to be firm, dispassion is a must.
Shlokas chanted in the Track:
सहनं सर्वदुःखानामप्रतीकारपूर्वकम् ।
चिन्ताविलापरहितं सा तितिक्षा निगद्यते ॥
Vivekachudamani 24
ॐ पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदं पूर्णात् पूर्णमुदच्यते।
पूर्णस्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते॥
Shanti Mantra from Brihadaranyaka Upanishad
