The Art and Process of Culturing Dispassion
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
In this Talk, Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha explains the art and process of cultivating dispassion. He stresses that dispassion is a natural outcome of Viveka, when one evaluates life and everything in this world as changing and transient. With this rightful assessment and discrimination of the plight and fate of everything in this world, including our own thoughts, dispassion is automatically cultivated.
Swamiji explains a verse from Vairagya Shatakam to elucidate how unfulfilling is the nature of the world and human life. All enjoyments devour the person rather than the person enjoying the desires. The root cause of this travesty is ignorance about the goal of the human life and how to pursue it properly.
Swamiji emphasises that the art and process of culturing dispassion, arising out of discrimination, should be given several mind hours and that this is the spirituo-philosophical culture of our land.
Shlokas chanted in the Track:
भोगा न भुक्ता वयमेव भुक्ता-स्तपो न तप्तं वयमेव तप्ताः ।
कालो न यातो वयमेव याता-स्तृण्णा न जीर्णा वयमेव जीर्णाः ।।
Vairagya-shatakam verse 6
