197 – Devotional Felicity through Contemplation 03 I Ma Gurupriya

Lecture based on Sreemad Bhagavatham during Jamshedpur Jnana Yajna 2013. This talk was held on 05 March 2013.

In this talk based on Srimad Bhagavatam, Ma speaks about Akrura—a great devotee of the Lord. Kamsa, knowing that Krishna would be the cause of his death, planned to bring Krishna to Mathura and kill him. Commissioned by Kamsa, Akrura undertook the journey to Vrindavan to bring Krishna and Balarama to Mathura.

Sitting in the chariot, Akrura’s devotional mind imagined how Krishna would look, how he would greet him, embrace him and how he would place his holy hands on his head. He felt that the purpose of his birth would be fulfilled by meeting his Lord. Nearing Vrindavan, seeing and identifying Krishna’s footprints (with divine insignia), Akrura jumped down from the chariot and started rolling on the ground, smearing the holy dust on his body.

Reaching Vrindavan, he saw Krishna and Balarama in the milking shed. He saw the two youth, one dark and the other light complexioned; one wearing yellow silk and the other in blue silk. Their beautiful faces radiated love and compassion and attracted everyone. Unable to wait any longer, Akrura ran to his Lord and fell at his feet, his eyes shedding tears of joy.

Soon, Akrura took Krishna and Balarama to Mathura. Seeing that Akrura had come to take Krishna away from them to Mathura, the Gopikas were inconsolable. After their departure, the Gopikas thought about him, remembered his excellences and glories, meditated upon him, sang his glories and got liberated.

Ma emphasizes that a seeker must strive to attain the one-pointed devotion that Akrura had. One must perceive the Lord in all beings, in all actions and interactions. In all situations—pleasant & unpleasant, favourable and unfavourable, one must perceive the Lord and feel that everything belongs to the Lord alone.
