Nutan Swamiji's session one, during the Bhagavad Gita Retreat conducted in Irvine, California during the USA Jnana Yajna 2024.
Location: Residence Inn Marriott Tustin Orange County, Newport Ave, Tustin, CA 92780
Date: 20 June 2024
In this talk, Swamiji speaks about the aim of spirituality and the pursuit of the seeker. The aim of Spirituality is to discover our own real identity, the Atma.
Vedantic meditation is practiced in order to have a direct experience of the Self. When one forgets the whole universe in meditation, including one’s own body-mind personality, one has the experience of the Self. ‘Patanjali Yoga sutra’ says that in meditation one must sit comfortably, without any effortfulness and slowly induce infinitude in oneself.
The Bhagavad Gita presents two pursuits to actualize the Self—1) Meditative Sadhana 2) Interactional Sadhana. In meditative sadhana, a seeker takes exclusively to the knowledge pursuit. In this pursuit, the seeker takes to shravana (listening or reading), manana (contemplating on what is heard or read) and nididhyasana (being unbrokenly and constantly established in the Truth).
However, not everyone is fit for the exclusive knowledge pursuit. For them, Bhagavad Gita presents the interactional sadhana--to be practiced while living and interacting in the world. Here, interactions are not a hindrance to Sadhana but they become an instrument to take one to the final goal. Remaining active and interactive, the seeker must change his mindset and approach to activities.
A seeker must pursue both meditative and interactional sadhana parallelly. He must try to attain the ultimate oneness and purity in every aspect of life. The Truth or Self experienced in meditation must be established in every action and interaction. He must perceive the world as an appearance in the Consciousness and perceive the Atma everywhere. When the mind attains this oneness, he becomes fulfilled.
Swamiji responds to questions of the participants in the last segment of the session. He gives clarity about the progress in spiritual pursuit, Guru’s grace, Buddhi Yoga, and Svadharma of Bhagavad Gita.
