  • Mutuality, Love and Tolerance III

    Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Raga (Desire), Dvesha (hatred or intolerance), bhaya(fear) are the primary ingredients of any mind. To deal with them, one has to take recourse to ‘jñāna tapas’ – austerity which is in the nature of knowledge.

Anger, resentment, fear, hatred, intolerance are all emotions which trouble a human and they are not welcome. They victimize the human. Anytime one becomes angry or intolerant, he should be the first person to feel guilty and he must deal with it. Introspection and self-assessment will lead to freedom from raga, dvesha and bhaya.

A seeker must assess his position and every time there is a disturbance in the mind, getting angry with another, showing displeasure, being irritated, he must understand that it is not right at all!

Purification of the mind means sublimating rāga, dvesha and bhaya. More the level of sublimity and purity increases in the mind, proportionately one will feel peaceful, joyous, free and harmonious. One will become more tolerant, loving and flexible.

Shlokas chanted in the Track:

शास्त्रे वादिभयं..

(Vairagya Shatakam 31)

वीतरागभयक्रोधा मन्मया मामुपाश्रिता: ।
बहवो ज्ञानतपसा पूता मद्भावमागता: ।।

(Bhagavad Gita 4.10)
