Swamiji’s narration revolves around Sri Krishna’s parting words to Uddhava in Srimad Bhagavatam. Unlike the concise Bhagavad Gita, the message conveyed to Uddhava spans over 24 chapters, offering explicit guidance on various aspects of life, including enduring cultural and religious practices. The Uddhava Gita provides detailed instructions on ritual practices, emphasising the importance of internal devotion. The instruction of Sri Krishna is couched in devotional language.

Krishna’s discourse transitions to a discussion on spiritual purification and the efficacy of devotional practices. Through the intricate verses, the text elucidates the process of spiritual purification. Impurities obstruct one’s perception of truth and the divine presence.

Vivekachudamani discusses the same idea focussing on the sadhaka’s own inner personality and its purity, sharpness and, concentration. It asks the seeker to dwell on the inner essence, so that all the desires go away and then he can perceive the subtle presence within.

So, one instrction is on the basis of devotion and God. Another is on the basis of our own mind and the self. There is no difference between the two. The sadhana is performed in the mind level, purity, subtlety and the realization of the truth is also taking place in the same mind. So, there is no conflict between devotion and knowledge.

Shlokas chanted in the Track:
यथा यथात्मा परिमृज्यतेऽसौ मत्पुण्यगाथाश्रवणाभिधानैः ।
तथा तथा पश्यति वस्तु सूक्ष्मं चक्षुर्यथैवाञ्जनसम्प्रयुक्तम् ।।

(Srimad Bhagavatam 11.14.26)

यथा यथा प्रत्यगवस्थितं मनः
तथा तथा मुञ्चति बाह्यवासनाम् ।
निःशेषमोक्षे सति वासनानां
आत्मानुभूतिः प्रतिबन्धशून्या ॥

(Vivekachudamani 276)
