Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
We are allowing the mind to be subdued by so many factors, as a result of which the joyfulness is not allowed to shine well. It is something like a light being covered by different layers of cloth so that the light is hindered. Remove the layers, one after the other, you will find the light becomes brilliant.
Three Strands of the Mind Rope
The mind is generally suffering from three notes -rāga (desire), dvesha (intolerance or resentment) and bhaya (fear). These are the three forces, three strands with which the mind rope is made.
If you are able to sublimate desire, intolerance and fear, the mind becomes most flexible, most refined and delightful. It is a very, very simple process. If you have heard me well, from this moment onwards, you should start focusing on your mind and decide that ‘I will make my mind joyous.’
Joy Lies Within
See, joy is an emotion. It is sourced by the mind. From no other place can it come. All emotions belong to the mind. Being an emotion, it is ingrained in the mind.
We are allowing the mind to be subdued by so many factors, as a result of which the joyfulness is not allowed to shine well. It is something like a light being covered by different layers of cloth so that the light is hindered.Remove the layers, one after the other, you will find the light becomes brilliant.
Mind is the Source of Everything
A mind that thinks rightly will do right. A mind that thinks wrongly will do wrong. A mind that feels ‘I am unfortunate’ will become unfortunate. A mind that feels ‘I am fortunate’ will become fortunate.
Mind you, the mind is very, very subtle. It is subtler than the solid earth, the fluid water, gaseous air and finally the subtle space – it is even subtler than that. Because it is so subtle, no object of the world will be able to administer any note of constriction to it.We are feeling constricted only because of our delusion.
All good thoughts proceed from the mind. All bad thoughts also proceed from the mind. Mind is the source of both. Decide that “today onwards I will make my mind the source of good, progressive, and expansive thoughts.” Practice it initially for a few days. Gradually it becomes your habit, culture and refinement.
