PS Malaysia Jnana Yajna Vedanta Workshop Session 1 - 2018 07 14
In this Satsang, Swamiji emphasizes that Knowledge is a coordinate of the human intelligence, human life and that it must be given a supreme position in life. When pursued with whole-hearted dedication, it bestows inner expansion, fulfilment, and stability.
Vedas are a treasure house of knowledge. The end portion of the Vedas is Vedanta. The Vedas consist of: 1) The Samhitas in the beginning, where man expressed his gratitude to invisible deities through hymns and prayers. 2) Braahmanas-Feeling unfulfilled with hymns and prayers, they felt the need to offer something to the deities. So, they developed a fire and offered materials in the fire, while chanting mantras. 3) Aaranyaka-Even by fire offerings they felt unfulfilled because they had no idea if the offerings reached the Gods. So, they closed their eyes and started applying their mind and intelligence and pursued a life of seeking. 4) Last portion of the Vedas are the Upanishads.
Upanishads are the knowledge portion of the Vedas, where knowledge alone is discussed. Vedanta enlightens a seeker about the ‘I’ (the Self), its infinite dimension. The ‘I’, the Consciousness is that which makes one conscious of other things and also of oneself. When a seeker knows his own real identity, life becomes fulfilling. The power, courage to face any situation must be derived from within. When the mind is aggrieved, when there is a doubt, one must dip within.
How to achieve excellence in life? How to apply Vedanta in order to have excellence in life? Swamiji states that the individual must ‘become’ excellent; it must become an innate quality in the personality. If one is excellent, then one will do well in all fields—the domestic, professional, administrative, and societal. The inner personality of a human consists of the mind, intelligence, and ego. The focus of a seeker must be within and the quest must be to make the mind excellent and qualitative.
In the Q & A session at the end, Swamiji gives further clarifications about Spiritual knowledge, the mind, and the Consciousness.
