Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

07 – Bhagavad Gita – By Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha – Essence of Scriptures

2 Views | 3 years ago

Swamiji, in this talk, defines devotion as an expression of love directed towards God.

Swamiji takes up Srimad Bhagavatam which is a compendium of all scriptures. It presents Vedantic teachings in the form of devotional stories. When King Pareekshit heard and absorbed this text, it infused transformation in him.

This text narrates excellences of the Lord, hearing which repeatedly, a seeker starts identifying with the qualities and enters into deep contemplation. Mind drops all its false notions, desires and negative tendencies and feels entirely embraced by the touch of the Lord.

Swamiji also explains how wholesome devotion will lead one to a loftier dimension. He says that a devotee with an expanded vision worships the Lord in everything and everywhere. Quoting various verses from the text, Swamiji asks us to install the Lord permanently in the cavern of our hearts by tying his feet with a cord of devotion. It will lead to contentment and peace of the mind. This is the highest form of devotion prescribed by Srimad Bhagavatam and a way to ultimate Liberation, concludes Swamiji.
