049 – Bhagavad Gita – Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha – Be a Master of the World, not its Slave – Part 1

4414 Views | 3 years ago

Though possessing the body and sense organs, human being is not a sensory creature. His specialty lies in the inner personality consisting of mind and intelligence, which are spiritual in nature. Poojya Swamiji reminds us that being spiritual, we are far superior to the world objects made up of matter and energy.

Despite knowing the ephemeral and corrosive nature of sensory enjoyments, we indulge in them considering them as the source of joy. In this pursuit of enjoyment, the rational human being becomes a slave to the senses - a miserable plight indeed!

Swamiji enlightens us that joy is an attribute of the mind - not the senses or their objects. The sense organs are inert and frail, and at best can only be considered as instruments for the mind to perform its functions. The mind being the source of all joy, it is redundant to look for it anywhere else! By constantly reflecting on this truth, all desires in the heart begins to deplete and finally become extinct.

In the spiritual domain, nothing is impossible - it is our resoluteness which matters!

Poojya Swamiji will be taking Bhagavad Gita Verse by Verse in this Satsang (Saturdays). Swamiji is now discussing the second chapter of the Bhagavad Gita.
