A new involvement to treat the afflicted mind
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
How to treat an afflicted mind? In this talk, Swamiji reveals a method to address the mind which is afflicted by remorse, guilt and grief.
After the Mahabharata war, Yudhishthira felt mentally stifled by the loss of over 20 crore people. He was tortured with the memory and the associated guilts. Bhishma, lying on a bed of arrows, gave him the treatment to assuage his enfeebled mind. He advised him to perform an Ashwamedha Yaga, which preoccupied his mind totally and consequently all the stifling’s of the war memories were forgotten.
For ordinary people, the redress is chanting the Lord’s name filling the mind so totally, that all the painful past memories are erased. It is a simple psychological law of treating the afflicted mind which is preoccupied by the past memory event that has already taken place. Chanting the Lord’s name is the new involvement which will free the mind afflicted with grief due to the past events.
