How to generate Austerity

  • How to generate Austerity

    Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Austerity is eliminating some of the practices, thoughts, indulgences etc. which one has, either habitually or as inborn traits. It also means taking to a practice of assimilating or incorporating some noble thoughts, virtues and practices.

Traits like intolerance, hatred, selfishness, jealousy etc. are some of the undesirable traits in us which constrict and disturb the mind. A seeker has to sincerely understand their presence and should actively try to eliminate them.

Similarly, traits like purity, non-hurtingness, cleanliness, moderation are to be cultivated by the seeker. He must give good and noble inputs to the system like taking to the association of the wise (Satsang), reading scriptural texts, Japa, Recitation etc. which make the mind noble and expansive.

Shlokas chanted in the Track:

वेद्यं वास्तवमत्र वस्तु शिवदं तापत्रयोन्मूलनम् ।
