Meditation is an Exclusive Mental Effort
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
In this talk, Swamiji speaks about meditation which is an exclusive mental effort. In meditation, we make the body still, sitting in a particular pose on an asana. The physical body is still, and we do not have to focus our attention on any of the functions of the body. One is completely free to focus on the mind.
In deeksha sadhana, one has to enter within the body, into the mind. One must enter the mind, by one’s own mind.
The Mantra given by the Guru is an optional thought. It is a mental formula that one has received. When one starts repeatedly thinking of the optional thought, one enters the mind. Entering the mind, one has to handle and manipulate one’s own mind.
The mind is desultory by nature. But the same mind can be made thinner, lighter, feebler and stable.
