Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
Swamiji says that the sole focus of a seeker must be the mind. The scriptures say that the mind is of two kinds–pure and impure. A desire-free mind is a pure mind and a desireful mind is an impure one.
So, the sadhana of a seeker is to deal with the mind and make the desires lesser and lesser. The mind must become thinner and thinner, softer and subtler. When the mind’s agitation is appeased and the mind becomes thinner and thinner, any thought that comes in it will not be disturbing. And only good, expansive, noble, lofty and exalted thoughts will come.
One must preserve and purify the mind so that the mind becomes far more efficient and also delivers the contentment and peace that one wants. Swamiji urges all to remember the Bhagavad Gita verse which says that one has to elevate oneself by effort. Such a mind is one’s friend, otherwise it is one’s own enemy.
