Qualities of a Devotee
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
All the yoga that Krishna speaks of in Bhagavad Gita, involves mind and intelligence. This is true of the devotional field also.
Devotion is centered in the mind. Pujas and ceremonies are not what we need to do. A seeker must offer this mind and intelligence to the Lord. He must make himself dear to the Lord by cultivating noble qualities. He must not have a sense of hatred, irritation or dislike towards anyone. He must develop an attitude of adjustment, affinity and appreciation with all the creatures of the universe. A seeker must pay attention to the quality of his mind.
Bhagavad Gita urges a seeker to overcome dvesha and becomes friendly, amiable, sympathetic and courteous to all. Mentally, orally and monetarily one must be helpful to all.
Shlokas chanted in the Track:
अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुण एव च ।
निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी ।।
सन्तुष्टः सततं योगी यतात्मा दृढनिश्चयः ।
मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्यो मद्भक्तः स मे प्रियः ।।
Bhagavad Gita 12.13-14
