Rest on Supreme Reality
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
There are four-fold requisites for a seeker to take up the enquiry into Brahman. In order to take up this enquiry and pursue it effectively, both mind and intelligence need to make the enquiry, and this is where Sadhana Chatushtayam is important.
The seeker must discriminate between real and unreal, and he must have dispassion towards the thrilling sensory delights. He must have a calm mind and controlled senses, tolerance, the readiness and ability to keep quiet for some time, assiduous attention to whatever is done and a feeling of composure and settlement arising from the fact that the mind is completely dependent on God. Finally, there must be aspiration for Moksha – Liberation.
These are the pre-requisites for a seeker to take up spiritual enquiry. It is not confined or limited to a specific gender, age, religion or nationality. It is dependent and determined by the mento-intellectual ripeness.
