The Bhagavad Gita is an innovation as it presents the Upanishadic truth of the unborn, undying eternal presence that animates and activates the body- the Atma.

Krishna has woven the message of the Upanishads into interactional life – that too the most complex life of public administration. He imported the Upanishad message on the battlefield and made Arjuna take back his bow and arrow. He touched Arjuna’s mind and gave him the required clarity and strength. The message of understanding and actualization of the Soul was given by Krishna in such a manner that the Upanishad renunciation was accomplished while being on the battlefield.

Sannyasa is the theme of the Gita. It is not the sannyasa that Upanishads speak of but the one related to the mind and intelligence of the human being, the shining truth abiding in our hearts. The truth is only one, never born, never dying. What one accomplished in the forest through meditative absorption, Krishna is instilling in Arjuna through instruction, giving him clarity.

Our real existence is beyond ego where no action originates and where no consequence befalls. True tyaaga is in the mind and intelligence level and this happens through wisdom alone.

Physical renunciation is not the real truth. One must achieve performancial excellence through inner renunciation. Sannyasa is the climax, the one single message of the Gita, says Swamiji.
