Self Effort to Elevate Yourself
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
Swami Bhoomananda Tirth commences this talk with the famous verse from Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6, where Sri Krishna inspires us to raise ourselves by our own mind and not to be a victim of mental traits that weaken us. Swamiji quotes several other scriptures and exhorts us to yearn to change ourselves, eliminate bad habits however deep rooted they may be, yearn for correction, and yearn for improvement.
The best spiritual exercise is to be aware of one’s own inherent traits, eliminate the bad traits and concurrently keep increasing the good traits by self effort, guided by the Scriptures and the Guru. One should be patiently elevating oneself by self effort, which is what Spirituality asks us to focus on. Building this Knowledge is the greatest wealth for transforming the inner personality and changing deep rooted habits.
