The Three Kinds of Yoga - Jnana, Karma, Bhakti
Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha
In Srimad Bhagavatam, Sri Krishna cautions Uddhava that all the Vedic injunctions create a differential vision and hence have to be outlived. Sri Krishna details the three paths of Yoga to Uddhava. In Bhagavad Gita also a similar message is given.
For those filled with dispassion, it is the Path of Knowledge (Jnana Yoga) and for those with passions and desires, the path is of Karma Yoga. Those who do not have much of either, Sri Krishna prescribes the path of listening to divine narrations, spiritual discourses, reading and reciting divine glories. This is the path of Bhakti Yoga. Depending on the competency and maturity of the seeker, any path sincerely pursued leads to purity of the mind, effacement of all sins and thus one attains the Ultimate Truth.
