Prabhata Rashmih – Making Devotion Wholesome

The Three Tenets of Devotion

Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

  • The Three Tenets of Devotion

    Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Swamiji says that Srimad Bhagavatam is a full treatise on devotion. Devotion, implies two factors and constituents-a} dispassion to the world, and b} more and more knowledge about God to whom one is devoted. These two are lacking in most of us.

Devotion can be of any kind- one can fear God, and one can have respect for him, or love for him. Any emotion can be a link between our mind and God. In the full level of devotion, God becomes unnegatable, so absolutely engulfing that one can never be away from him. Whatever is other than him, you develop dispassion for it. So, bhakti, Virakti (dispassion), and God experience must simultaneously take place in a devotee.

Swamiji urges listeners to make this the aim. This will result in freedom and spiritual ecstasy.
