Pujya Swamiji speaks of two extremely important aspects in a Sadhaka’s life–Truthfulness and Austerity. These are very significant for Self-Realization.
Austerity or Tapas means how attentive or aware we are in even doing the most mundane acts. The important thing is doing everything with a note of attention. Tapas can be physical, oral, mental or intellectual.
Truthfulness is part of Purity and is perhaps everything in Spiritual life. Purity has to become our very nature, constantly and wholesomely.
Truthfulness and Austerity are not mere rituals; we must try and find out whether it imposes a measure of austerity, attention and discipline in us. Then all the defects on the mind will have to be purged before the realization or goal is achieved.
