Uddhava was the chosen devotee, who lived in close proximity to Sri Krishna. When it was time for Krishna to depart from the world, Uddhava could not bear the thought of separation from his Lord. Krishna asked Uddhava to leave and go to Badarikashrama before he (Krishna) left the world. Uddhava was unable to obey Krishna and asked Him to give him spiritual instruction to get over his delusion.

Through this story, Swamiji reveals that mere proximity or practice of devotion will not be able to penetrate the mind and purify the mind. What decades of close proximity with Krishna could not bring about, Uddhava was able to achieve, by seeking instruction from Krishna and Krishna giving the instruction. Every word uttered by Krishna entered the mind structure of Uddhava, bringing about a transformation. Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha finally emphasizes that a visit to the ashram will become meaningful only with transformation of the mind, enlightenment of intelligence and expansion of the mind and heart.
