In this Satsang, Ma emphasizes that the goal of a seeker is to know the Self (one’s own real nature). Only by knowing the Self, one can attain supreme peace and happiness. Therefore, a seeker must strive, excellently and well, to become liberated.

Having renounced the desires for enjoyment of external objects, a seeker must strive to attain the internal, perennial happiness and peace. With the sole aim of attaining this, he must seek out a spiritual teacher, a Sadguru. Having been instructed by the Guru, the seeker must contemplate on that diligently, absorb it and make it his own.

The scriptures prescribe a four-fold pursuit (Sadhana Chatushtayam) for the seeker of Truth. Viveka (Discrimination between the real the unreal, eternal and perishable). One must introspect and understand what would be conducive to one’s own pursuit and growth. Viveka must be practiced through every action, every thought. By this, the ignorance and darkness of the mind gets dissolved. For a sincere seeker, Viveka must become a habit and a regular practice.

When Viveka is diligently practiced, Vairagya arises. Vairagya is when the mind becomes dispassionate about worldly things. A seeker must practice Vairagya by repeatedly thinking about the transitory nature of the world.

When Viveka and Vairagya arise in the seeker, it would become easier to acquire other qualities. He must attempt to cultivate the qualities of Sama and Dama (Restraint of the mind and senses). But the mind and senses constantly go to the world objects and enjoyments. How to restrain them? Ma says that a seeker must constantly focus on the thought of the Self/God. By this constant practice, the mind will slowly turn inward.
