Interactive Satsang with Ma Gurupriya
#enlightenedliving #magurupriyaji
In this beautiful, sublime talk, Ma discusses devotion (bhakti) and the qualities of a true devotee. She emphasizes the need to perceive God everywhere and cultivate unconditional devotion which is free of all desires. A devotee must seek refuge in God and rely on Him in all situations.
Giving instances of Kunti and Dhruva, Ma highlights the deep connection between the devotee and the divine. They took refuge in the Lord, to the exclusion of everything else.
Elucidating the qualities of a devotee, Bhagavad Gita says that a true devotee sees the divine in all creatures, is free from hatred and possessiveness, maintains equanimity in pleasure and pain, is forgiving, contented, and happy. His mind and intelligence are always anchored in God. He has an integrated personality, with disciplined senses and mind. He has purity of mind and body, skilfulness, impartiality, and dispassion. Such a devotee who has Samatva (equalness) in the face of praise and criticism and remains contented and unattached is most dear to the Lord.
A seeker must take to self-assessment to determine his/her own progress in developing the qualities of a true devotee. One must pray for a sharp and discerning intelligence to recognize delusions and attachments in oneself. A sadhaka must take to listening to, reading and thinking of the Lord which removes all the grief from the mind. The Sadhana is to cultivate devotion, cultivate virtuous qualities, and to constantly recognize God's presence in all aspects of life.
