Gurupoornima Retreat - 2024 - Discourse based on Bhagavad Gita followed by Q/A.

Discussing Karma Yoga of Bhagavad Gita, Swamiji emphasizes that activity is a demand and persuasion of nature. The three Gunas of nature propel the human to be active.

In this world, every action can cause bondage. Bhagavad Gita says that if one wants to escape this binding effect, every action should be done as a Yajna, a sacrifice. One must sacrifice the sense of ego, possessiveness, desire etc. Every activity must be done as an offering to the Lord, without delusional clinging.

True renunciation is to live and act without any delusional clinging. When the activity is done without a sense of possessiveness and with a sense of surrender to the Lord, that is true Sannyasa. A mind which is imbued with this spiritual attitude, becomes free of desires and possessiveness.

But we are invariably in the grip of desires. How to avoid it? Reflecting on the ‘I’ which is superior to the intelligence, and regulating the mind and the senses, one must win over the enemy called desire, says Bhagavad Gita.

Our mind is a rope made of three strands—Raga, Bhaya and Krodha. Transcending them, reflecting constantly upon the Lord, taking refuge in the Lord, many have attained the Lord by the purifying Knowledge Austerity (Jnana Tapas).

A wise man is a person whose all undertakings are free from desires and undue imaginations. He accepts whatever chance or providence brings. Rising above all pairs of opposites (dvandvas), having no competition with anyone, having an equalness towards success and failure, he is free from all bondage.
