The Shastras keep reminding us that we are immortal. Very often we consider the changeful body and mind as 'I', forgetting our real identity. Anything changeful cannot be the real. So how do we know this real 'I' or Atma? Swamiji explains that Atma is the revealer of everything - the subject. Due to our long standing habit of objectivising everything, we try to know Atma too as something different from us. It is only when we stop looking for Atma as something different - that Atma will reveal itself.

Swamiji elaborates that the life forces, the senses and the mind are doing all their work by taking refuge in Atma. They are performing their functions as a Yajna - worshiping the Atma. It is our sense of doership and desire which distorts this fundamental tune, making us constricted. With desirelessness all our actions become harmonious with the divine will!
