Gurupoornima Retreat - 2024 - Discourse based on Bhagavad Gita followed by Q/A.

In this talk, Swamiji continues with the Bhagavad Gita exposition and discusses some revolutionary, independent, revealing verses, where there is no reference to Self or God.

Bhagavad Gita says that a ‘constant renunciate’, does not desire or hate. Being free from dual responses (Nirdvandvatva), he is liberated from all shackles of the mind and intelligence. The whole creation is won over by one whose mind is resting on Saamya (equalness). Brahman is equal and taintless. By attaining this equanimity, he is established in Brahman.

Whoever is able to withstand the urges of passion and anger, before the body falls, is a spiritually integrated and happy human. An ascetic whose mind is sufficiently regulated, who is free from the clutches of passion and hatred, for him wherever he goes, Brahma nirvana encircles him.

That performer who is performing all his activities, but is not afflicted by the results of whatever he does, is a Sannyasi and Yogi, not one who has left fire sacrifices or activities. It is an inner process of refinement where one is not concerned with the outcome of what he does.

Bhagavad Gita exhorts a seeker to elevate himself by virtue of his own effort. The Self is one’s own friend and it is one’s own enemy. If one is able to overcome the wrong impulsions of his own mind, one has won over the world. Suppose one falls a prey to unjust desires and compulsions, then one’s own mind is the enemy.

Sri Krishna gives the principle of moderation as the ultimate watchword for a seeker. The Yoga redresses the grief of one who is moderate in food habits, all activities, and sleep. One who has Yogic orientation, perceives the self in all beings and all beings in the Self. The Yogi who perceives the same Self everywhere, in both Sukha and duhkha, he is considered the most supreme Yogi. Swamiji underlines the fact that unifying Sukha-duhkhas is Yoga.
