In this Satsang, Ma discusses Adi Shankaracharya’s text Vivekachudamani familiarizing the listeners with the beautiful Sanskrit verses and their deep meaning. The text begins with how a seeker who is pursuing Sadhana Chatushtaya and who has a burning yearning to know the Atma, seeks a Guru. A Sadguru is one who is a knower of Truth, who is peaceful, who knows the essence of all scriptures, who is desireless and who is an ocean of mercy.

Having come to the Guru, prostrating before him with devotion, having done some devotional service to him, the seeker tells the Guru about how he is scorched by the world fire. Beset by fear, he seeks refuge under the Guru. He asks the Guru how the misery of worldliness can be attenuated. He wants to know what bondage is, what liberation is, what Atma is!

When the seeker describes his own state, the Guru by a mere compassionate glance bestows fearlessness to the seeker. He promises to shows him the path by which the ocean of worldliness can be crossed.

Vivekachudamani says that a seeker must never forget his goal which will lead him to unaffectedness, peace and fearlessness. If the goal is forgotten even for a moment, one gets lost in the worldliness. A seeker must understand that object enjoyments may give short-lived happiness but ultimately, they only give sorrow and further desires. So, abandoning outside entanglements, he must introspect on the Self, the Atma.

The Atma is changeless, without parts, formless, absolute, eternal, without a second, universal, transcendental, infinite, indivisible and of the nature of Ananda. Ma urges seekers to introspect on the Atma. This sadhana has to be done in solitude, delving into one’s own within. The seeker must undergo the constant disciplines and sadhana to reach the goal. Introspection on the Atma, listening and reading about its qualities must be a constant process. The seeker must also constantly assess his progress in the spiritual path.
