108 – Bhagavad Gita – Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha – Understanding the Fallacy of Desires

1540 Views | 2 years ago

In this satsang, Poojya Swamiji enlightens us how desire envelopes the knowledge 'I am the Self' and instigates one to wrong and harmful activities.

Desire is notorious, because from it, passion germinates and the passion is extremely powerful and hard to overcome. It is the stumbling block to our liberation and freedom. Even when we know the supreme Truth that we are the ever brilliant, singular Self, the mind and senses have their latent tendencies and influences inherited from many generations and makes us think that we are the body, we are born, we are the doer and enjoyer.

Swamiji says, just as we have the bodily vision and points of view, we must cultivate the counter Soul vision and point of view. This is the sadhana we have to pursue. Generally, our desires are for sensory objects which are tamasic and rajasic. We must sublimate them and make our desires sattvic. We can desire, but for purity, fulfilment, service to others, dispassion etc. These sattvic desires are such, that it leads the seeker to Self-Realisation!
