Quoting meaningful phrases from the verses of various scriptures, Swamiji points out that these must strike the mind of the seeker and remain there. When the powerful words and their meanings continue to work in the mind, it brings about a transformation in the mind.

Recapping the first few verses of Ishopanishad, Swamiji points out that it is a call to divinize our life. When we do all activities thinking ईशावास्यम् इदं सर्वं (everything is the Lord alone), the differential notions will be eliminated from the mind. We will do all actions thinking that it is God’s will and His work. If all activities are done as an offering to the Universal Lord, without doership, enjoyership and desires, then the activities will not bind us. One will be able to do all activities naturally and joyously. Ishopanishad verses inspire the seeker to divinize his life and become free of all bondage.

Having had a human birth, if we do not strive to realize our true identity, if we do not yearn to experience the unaffectedness, expanse of the Atma, then we continue to live in darkness. By interacting with worldly objects, our mind and intelligence become gross and we believe that we are the small body-mind personality. We continue to suffer because of our mistaken identity. The Upanishad repeatedly tries to show us the Supreme position of the Atma, which is our own real identity. When our mind repeatedly interacts with the unaffected, unchanging, eternal Atma, it will get transformed. We will be able to know the glory of the Transcendental Atma only when our whole being attains a state of placidity, calmness.
