In the traditional sacrifice (Yajna), a fire is ignited in the Homa Kunda and various materials are offered in it, with a view to propitiating various deities. But will this process take a seeker forward in the spiritual path?
In this Satsang, Poojya Swamiji discusses the sublime inner sacrifice (Yajna) where all actions are done remaining established in Brahman. He speaks about the singular comprehensive Yajna by which a seeker will be able to realize the all-pervading Brahman. In this internal Yajna, the focus shifts from the externals to the mind and intelligence.
Speaking about the various Yajnas, Swamiji says that some practitioners offer their sensory functions into the fire of their own restraint. Others offer sound, hearing etc., into the fire of their respective senses. The focus is on the use of senses with moderation and avoiding external indulgences. Some offer the activities of all the sensory organs and Prana (vital energy) into the fire of self-discipline. Such persons sit in a place, withdrawing their senses from all external objects, and get engaged in contemplation.
Furthermore, some perform Yajna with materials, some do various kinds of austerity, some others engage in Yoga, some do scriptural study and listening. Some others pursue Pranayama (regulating the incoming and outgoing breath) and make an effort to make their mind still. Thus assorted are sacrifices, each held as best by its practitioners.
