Introducing Kaivalya Upanishad, Swamiji says that all Upanishads speak about the same Universal Truth. A Sadhaka must use the scriptures as a tool to purify the mind and remove all the constrictions from the mind. Repeatedly contemplating on the concept of the Soul, he should strive to make the mind sky-like. By absorbing the qualities of the Atma, he must make the mind Soul-like.

‘Kaivalya’ refers to the Consciousness which is One, Poorna (full), without any duality. It is the Ultimate uniformity where there is no differentiation. One who aspires for the Kaivalya and has enough qualities to absorb the knowledge, is a fit recipient of the Upanishad.

The Upanishad begins with the statement that Sage Ashvalayana approached the creator Brahma, to receive spiritual instructions. He had done scriptural studies, performed Vedic sacrifices (Yaga, Yajnas) and he had enough of Sadhana Chatushtaya (Requisite four-fold qualities for a seeker of Truth). He now had a burning aspiration for liberation (to become free from all the bondages of the mind and intelligence.)

Sage Ashvalayana approached Brahma with devotion, humility and sincerity. Swamiji emphasizes that any seeker must approach his Guru with full faith that his Guru will show him the path to his goal. He must understand that his Guru has realized the essence of Shastras and will be able to guide him in the journey to his goal.
