In this Satsang, Swamiji reiterates that the aim of Yoga is to transcend individual identity and merge with the universal consciousness, by removing the cloud of ignorance through knowledge. It is a journey of self-discovery and the transformation of the mind through spiritual practices.

In Kaivalya Upanishad, creator Brahma tells Ashvalayana that the Brahman is to be known by Dhyana Yoga—Meditation which will lead one to the discovery of one’s own identity. Patanjali’s Ashtaanga Yoga discusses eight aspects—five external aspects ((Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara) and three internal aspects (Dhaarana, Dhyaana, Samadhi).

Yama includes disciplines to enhance inner peace and harmony while interacting with the world and taking to sensory disciplines to reduce distractions during meditation. Yama practices are Ahimsa (non-hurtingness), Satyam (truthfulness), Asteyam (not taking others’ possessions), Brahmacharyam (celibacy), and Aparigraha (refusing to accept anything other than the essentials). Niyama consists of practices such as Shaucham (internal and external purity), Santosham (contentment), Tapah (austerity), Svaadhyaaya (self-study and ultimately anchoring the buddhi in the Atma), and Ishvara Pranidhana (surrendering to the ultimate truth).

Parallelly, Swamiji discusses Aparokshanubhuti which discusses Raja Yoga (with 15 aspects), where the mind focusses only on the Truth. Here the emphasis is on Brahma Dhayana (meditation on the ultimate reality) as the core practice. The ultimate goal is to become one with Brahman, experiencing continuous bliss.

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Kaivalya Upanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
