In this Satsang, Ma emphasizes the importance of self-purification for a seeker. The mind often undergoes suffering, agitation and anxiety because of the traits of the mind and is not peaceful. This restless, disturbed mind must be made restful and calm, which is possible only when we purify our mind. The Self reveals itself only in a pure mind. So, along with the regular Sadhana of meditation, scriptural study, we must cultivate noble qualities and purify the mind.

Amritabindu Upanishad declares that the mind is of two kinds—pure and impure. The mind which is full of desires is impure. It is constantly disturbed by the desires and we become agitated and unhappy. But when the mind is rid of desires, it becomes pure. So, what is the sadhana of Self-purification? Whenever desires disturb the mind, we must know how to deal with it, handle it. We must be alert and attentive to read the mind carefully.

The mind is the sole cause of both bondage and liberation. When the mind is attached to worldly objects, it leads to bondage. We are bound by the shackles of the mind and intelligence. The mind is bound because of desires and the traits of the mind and the intelligence is bound by lack of clarity and confusion. We become liberated when we remove these shackles of the mind.

Ma urges listeners to understand that discrimination and introspection are essential to develop a pure mind. A seeker must clean and purify the mind, just as one cleans brass and copper vessels. The cleaning of the mind has to be done with good qualities. Not giving way to desultoriness, one must be attentive and alert to cultivate noble qualities and remove undesirable traits of the mind. When one becomes absolutely pure, one becomes placid, cheerful always. One will have Supreme peace, contentment and bliss and there will be a steady devotion towards the absolute Truth.
