In this Satsang, Swamiji discusses the initial part of Taittiriya Upanishad where the Upanishad speaks about how chanting can be converted into a Sadhana, in the path of knowledge. It tries to take us from grossness to the subtle consciousness, from variety to oneness.

The Upanishad speaks about the Maha Samhitas (the five-fold meditation) which can take the mind to the subtle level, to the oneness behind everything. Chanting can be converted into Knowledge through this Upasana. These five-fold techniques take us to a lofty level of mind and intelligence. The Maha-Samhitas are—Adhilokam (Relating to the earth and other worlds), Adhijyautisham (Relating to all that shine), Adhividyam (Relating to Learning), Adhiprajam (Relating to parents and children) and Adhyaatmam (Relating to the body and mind).

The Upanishad then speaks about the prayer of the teacher or preceptor, where he prays for fitness to communicate Brahma Vidya. The teacher is praying to Om, which is the symbol of Brahma Vidya. The Prayer says that the Omkara is the most superior amongst all Vedic utterances and it is the manifest form of Brahman. All the Vedas have come from the One, Supreme Truth; The Truth transcends all Vedas.

The teacher prays to Om that he must become the receptacle and container of Amrta (immortality). The Om must enliven, fulfill and delight the intelligence. The intelligence must be inspired enough to retain the Truth. The body also must be enlivened with Sattva Guna. The speech must come from the deepest level and must come from the inner nectar of immortality. The ears must hear only words of Truth, which are purifying.

The intelligence acts like a sheath of Brahman, veiling the Truth due ignorance. When, by knowledge, the ignorance is removed, the Truth reveals itself. So, the intelligence must be made more and more Saatvic and by that the Truth will be uncovered.
