Poojya Swamiji has been discussing shloka 5.22 of the Bhagavad Gita, emphasizing the importance of cultivating discreet dispassion. During this discussion, Swamiji recounted the life story of Yamunacharya, who, as a young and humble disciple of his Guru Bhashyacharya, challenged and defeated the arrogant palace pundit. As a result, Yamunacharya was awarded half of the kingdom by the king and became the ruler, living a royal life.
Swamiji then described the illuminating events that led Yamuna to relinquish the throne and return to his spiritual path. Upon hearing the exemplary verses of the Bhagavad Gita, Yamuna was reminded of his previous spiritual life and chose to dedicate the remainder of his life to the service of Lord Ranganatha.
Swamiji further chanted several verses from the Vishnu Stotram written by Yamunacharya. These verses highlight the glory of a devotee’s heart, his thoughts, and his determination. A true devotee is one who has unwavering faith in God and seeks refuge in Him in a wholesome manner, recognizing the Lord as a compassionate being who cannot reject even the most sinful soul. The verses illustrate the open and intimate dialogue between the devotee and the Lord, where the devotee expresses his shortcomings and earnestly seeks the Lord's gracious protection.
